Skylark

Skylark

I saw a skylark this morning,

Heard it sing a distinctive love song,

Displayed in a typical English scenario,

Clear blue sky festooned,

Not too heavily with wispy cloud,

Dancing in the early morning summer breeze,

Stood greyhound Whisper to my left,

Grey horse Harry on my right,

Overlooking fresh cut cornfields,

The haymaking in full flow,

Blackbirds,finches,thrushes in song,

Consciously I did not hear them,

All I heard was the skylark's song,

Cavorting spiralling upwards,

Powerful emotive loud and beautiful.

So full of joy unbridled love,

I transferred to a higher plain,

Albeit a brief sojourn from reality,

Which was a buzzard jet like swooping,

To claw a baby rabbit,

From its sanctuary of the unmown field,

To provide the breakfast fare, nature is so cruel,

Today will be a memorable day though,

I saw a skylark this morning.

    that's nature for ya innit......

while out this mane, I saw a linnet and a brambling, both in the very same hedgerow..... what I wouldn't give though to hear a skylark again.... a delightful ramble and true...... Neville

Hi Neville Yes an actual scene as I witnessed in the Cotswolds. I roam for hours and see great sights thankyou

    • Fay Slimm.

Ah - the skylarks have deserted this part of south-western Cornwall for now - so often they could be seen and heard over the nearby towans and what a thrill that in the Cotswold area they are seen still - having lived there once myself I remember their beautiful love song so well. Thank you my friend for this return by poetry to a wonderful part of the Gloucesterside country.
