Yes moderation in all is the key to life.
What prize awaits the moderate? Does it guarantee good health? No. Good fortune? No. Longevity then? No. Freedom from abuse? Definitely no.
What is the goal? What is the reward?
If moderation or abstaining have no quotable benefit then indulge i say.

EVERYTHING is BAD, EVERTHING is GOOD. Even good things will become bad if over indulged, and that's where moderation comes in. Bad things need not to be completely avoided, and that's where moderation come in.
While good may not be guaranteed, bad can positively be assured and that's where moderation comes in.
What's called for are measured actions and avoidance of extremes, not avoidance period.
