Thank You For Smiling

Nafis Light

I can see a light...
so pink and so clear;
It's not far but right here...
...it's your smile.

I was lost and down
but a path was opened
when you gave a big smile
and I could walk another mile.

I didn't have friends
till I remember that smile of yours,
How could I ever forget
something delightful as that?

I could be alive right now
'cause of that smile, yup...
...guess that meeting was meant to be
or I would never be free.

I'll hold on to it;
This smile...who would want to let it go?
It is a treasure for life;
Thanks...for giving me a means to survive.

  • Comment from author about the poem: It's not exactly about me. I was watching a tribute video to something and it's basically about being there and not being abandoned. Sure, the song is like giving hope...and triggered some deep past stuff such as certain people telling me that I was important to them, but in the end I questioned if they really meant what they said. The poem is a positive thing instead. It's like despite negative/sad memories being triggered, I did my best to channel it out in a positive form instead.

    A smile can be so important in life, I feel that if I can make somebody smile during the day I have done my job.
