country road

dusk arising

Stopped out on a country road
             and kicked a tyre
green springing all around
             and birds still wanna sing
blues on my lips about some game
             things people do
people like me
             people like you
where are ya, whaddya do, whats the point
             still thinking of you
the game goes on and on
             its what we do

And the sun way up above plays
             higher in the sky
so the year's coming on and
             this roads straight ahead
and thinkin back tho i know
             minds grow hazy
it wasn't just the losing you, your loving
             drove me crazy
yesterdays i'd romance and i'd dream
             the thoughts of maybe's
but tonite i'll draw the shutters knowing (damn you girl)
             you played me

  • Comment from author about the poem: Just a dumb song i wrote sat on a worcestershire roadside about two summers back. Long ago it occurred to me that song lyrics contain dubious plot and who am i to break with tradition?

And I thought, she only played me.

Mind stores and often the playback button is tapped.

LOL they're all at it now and again methinks. Yes, playback can happen at any time.

Yes those maybe's can take us over and what more apt a place to cogitate than on some country road - the flow of lament in this telling song strikes a chord with me in its final three words - - being played leaves a dubious taste in the memory for a very long time.

Being played leaves a very bad stain and certainly makes one very wary. This song was simply written as an exercise though with no particular experience in mind. Thanks again and apologies for possibly reminding you of a bad chapter.

Those yesterdays can have a great deal for which to answer, all we can do is move on towards tomorrow which will be better.

Yes indeed, positivity wins. Thanks Goldfinch.

Thanks Neville. I must take a trip along that road again, the song tho was all tongue in cheek.

              I understand entirely... 🙂
