Breath Breezes

Tune: St Ethelwald

(one tune to 'Soldiers of Christ, arise')

*********

Lord, breathe your Spirit o'er

Us, fill us, reassure

Us of your presence, keep and guide

Still in our hearts reside

Yet not as stagnant pool

To you for help we call

Make channels for your Spirit's flow

Then refreshing we know

For He water of life

Supplies us, without strife

Streams in the desert, the thirsty

Shall be quenched true, we see

Life-giving holy dove

Full of mercy, grace, love

Abide with us, not fly away

But stay to endless day

Arise within my soul

Come heal and make me whole

Each believer may be indwelt

By Him, He sensed and felt

Help me Him not suppress

For He at hand to bless

To empower, to sanctify

His life it ne'er shall die

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.8.6. metre. The alternative tune in the clip fits to this also. I could not find a St Ethelwald tune clip. There is a livelier tune to 'Soldiers of Christ, arise' but it seems too strong for this quieter hymn-poem.
