work again so
money comes in
oiling creaky
dwindling years
wood and coal
the fat belly stove
saving on up
fo' electric bill
rainy day floorboard money
Jessie got a birthday coming
how many more years
livin hand to mouth
thankful it aint snowing
small praise
fo' these days
achin back been
buggin me
worn out knees
and a family
truck dont start
Billy's come home
eggs on the stove
breakfast done
rainy day keeps on comin
Mamma's got old age showing
how many more years
livin hand to mouth
watchin my seedlings growing
small praise
fo' these days
wasn't never meant to pan out this way
waiting for a reason on the judgement day
preacher done told me when the day is done
st peter gonna tell me god bless you son
small praise
fo' these days
small praise

The message of struggle comes over so well in these haunting lines D.A. - - life is an on-going journey to prove we are winners - but as you so rightly state - thin rewards bring small praise. A compellingly good read.
Fortunately i am a little bit further away from the breadline than is portrayed here. Struggling to feed a family for small praise or even scorn from the other half must be soul destroying. Glad that you enjoyed it.
these words more than adequately convey the important message and need to go on regardless of the obstacles in the way... a great poem with a dated feel... and that is meant to read as a compliment DA.... just in case you were wondering..... top marks to ya... Neville
Yep, not many rely on a fat belly stove these days. Thank you for your kind comment Neville, always apppreciated.
You have given life to the plight of most with these words of yours. Thou different times, maybe, the struggle to survive, chasing for crumbs, being content- that's all folks!
Living enough to see tomorrow with a full belly and a warm bed would have been luxury to many people in past times in our society. Thank you Suresh.
That's what Bugs Bunny, or Porky Pig says, at the end of cartoons 'That's All, Folks!'
Those are not my words. What's up Duck?
In all the hardships of life we must keep going and your words show how hard life can be.
Yep, absolutely, with positive mind.
