Manna from the Oven.

Goldfinch60

I know I shouldn’t do it,

But it is compelling.

I keep on saying to myself

I must not do it,.

I must not make it

But sense leaves me

And I am pulled in,

Pulled into doing it.

I know I will regret it

But the taste when it is made

Is so good.

It takes time to prepare it,

Little time to cook it,

Even less time to eat it.

But I fell into the trap again

And made this manna,

This manna called ciabatta.

It does not last long!

  • Comment from author about the poem: I have been making my own bread for many years know and I also make ciabatta, the first time I made it and ate it I was in heaven, it went so quickly - that was the problem eating too much of it, so now I try (try being the operative word) to limit how often I make it.

Hey fatty..... does it make good toast?
You really shouldn't tell me about tasty foods for you'll get me wanting to try them. I already had a blackberry and apple crumble this week (a favourite) and a Jalfrezi on Weds.
Do you use a breadmaker thing and is a special flour and yeast required.
I bet you spread Marmite on it too reflecting back on the days when Marmite tasted like Marmite.

Thank you for you comment d a, so you have seen my profile then.
I DO NOT use a bread-maker but I do use a food mixer to do the initial mix of the ingredients. When I knead the bread it gets done twice, the first time to get all the anger out of my mind then the second one to put all the love from my mind into the bread - it has always worked for me over the many years I have been making bread..
Marmite or Bovril I use them both.
Do you remember when Wagon Wheels were a decent size, not the small mouthful they became?

Ah, but we knew what waggons looked like in those days.

Fresh bread is worth it just for the smell around the house whilst it baking...
Hard work though a metaphor for life

I learnt that to sate ones urge is to overindulge to an extent that your senses just stop wanting it, and if not then one has to do it your way.
In actuality we are slave to our senses. Enjoy your ciabatta.

              • Goldfinch60

                Thank you Suresh, I will.

My MUM has one and the *LOAF* never lasts more than a DAY ~ truely scrumptious. When ANGELA & I are in a RISTORANTE we always have CIABATTA e OLIVE as a starter ~ beautiful. I asked an a Italian Friend why does Ciabatta only stay fresh for ONE DAY he answered *Because two day old CIABATTA does not exist !*

Blessings & Llove for You & Joyce
Yours as always BRIAN & ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

                • Goldfinch60

Thank you Brian, I always think that a bread maker is cheating although in this day and age time always seems to be of the essence and it is one way of creating good food without much effort. That effort that I put into breadmaking is very rewarding.

                • Fay Slimm.

What a yummy way to feed anger into the kneading of home-made bread - - you have inspired me to try ciabatta dear Goldy - a change from the usual recipe for me.......... I love the smell as much as the taste when baking bread.

                  • Goldfinch60

Yes Fay it works very well get rid of the anger but finish with love.

Making ciabatta can be quite messy but the taste is well worth it, please let me know how you get on.
