Room of Mirrors

vanessa wallace

All I see in my reflection

Is you and me

It's so comforting

Yet so terrifying

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem might seem very straightforward when it is meant to be the opposite. I wrote this when I was terrified of looking in mirrors. Later, I discovered that I have a phobia or fear of mirrors. That's what inspired this. Anyways, this poem is talking about looking in the mirror and seeing the person you're afraid of becoming. That's the meaning behind the line "Is you and me". You don't see your reflection but rather you see something that terrifies you and comforts you at the same time.

That person you see in the mirror is not you, it is a reflection of you so the person you are will always be so much better than the reflection.
