Darkness Dismissed

orchidee

Tune: Hereford

(''O thou who camest from above')

Based on a Collect = Formal Prayer

**********

Lighten our darkness, Lord, beseech

We, still show mercy unto each

Who do you trust, in you confide

You our refuge, and none beside

And by your great mercy defend

Your servants here unto the end

From all perils, dangers of night

Whether unseen or clear to sight

For the love of your Son, we ask

Humbly  you to fulfil this task

Your only Son, Jesus our Lord

He Christ, Anointed, living Word

All sorts of darkness turn to light

Shine on us your countenance bright

Going your way of love, truth, peace

Keep us and guard us, never cease

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. metre. I recalled recently that this Evening Service Collect/Prayer surely cannot mean just physical darkness - as if to pray for lighter evenings all year round, for example! But there is spiritual darkness too. Also. I don't think there HAS to be darkness, for there to be light present. It could just ALL be light.

No matter from whence it is delivered, let the darkness of mind, body and soul be enlightened for all of creation.
