Crimson Swathe
Somewhere in this crimson swathe
Wasteland by any other name
Hope lies in a field of poppies
One day we might just make out here
If it should please you
Or elsewhere should it please you more
Here in this crimson swathe
Wasteland by any other name
Hope died long before the poppies came

Symbolic poppies always divert my mind to the great loss of warfare.
Poppies though are vibrant life and your words 'make out' lead me along different thought paths..... tbh im not quite sure where.
thank you for popping in and checking these words out for me... Neville
A fine write again Neville.
Meanwhile - did hope die long before I sang?! Or was it the expectancy of me singing that caused everyone to 'abandon hope all ye that enter here?!''
we may never achieve that point of realization.. but cheers for putting the idea into my head.......... N
A hint of pathos made me change my mind on the comment I was about to make on these subtle words....... making out in a poppy field could feel good but for that last solemn line.... you did it again and left me wanting just a bit more............... x Fay
what a lovely review comment you have left these words... thank you
Hope lies - hope died......
This poem begging the reader to know the poets mindset
So good tease
I like the fact you found it so ... thank you Suresh and muchly meant.... N
I like this piece quite a bit! It would be romantic to make out in a field of poppies I think because I don't relate them to a wasteland.....I think they are beautiful!
Good to know we have something in common... Oh' and thank you Christina8 for popping in and taking a peek at my scribble ............... Neville
Hope the girl or Hope the longing? Matters naught. A field of poppies inspired your desire for both, but then... things happened.
Cheer up it's only poetry. - Phil A.
Yes.. at the end of the day, only words.. and I thank you for visiting them..

That field of poppies is so powerful in our lives. One hopes that that wasteland reminds all of the troubles of the past and those who gave their lives for us did so so it would not happen again.
"MAKE LOVE! NOT WAR!"
