Escape

Khadija Ajaoud

Who I am to light a candle
at the middle of night?
And who you are to blow it out?
I said dance before the evenings grieve,
Dance to the autumn
Dance to yesterday
And begin in me.
Remember me
Remember the light inside me
And Escape
From quiteness,
From the silence of holy books
From any speechless cleric
Who never tasted the wine of love.
Believe in our sublime beauty
And the flowers blooming in the vase
Glory, glory, glory
Until the sun rises in the west
And sets in the east,
Until the seas go dry
And yusuf loses his beauty.
