Tune: Lasst Uns Erfreuen

('All creatures of our God and King')

*********

Psalm 27 v.1

The LORD my light, my salvation

Whom shall I fear midst the nation?

Alleluia, Alleluia!

The LORD the strength of my life be

He will uphold me constantly

Whom shall I fear here, see?

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Psalm 27 v.8-9

When you said, O LORD, Seek my face

My heart said, Your face LORD  I trace

Alleluia, Alleluia!

I will it seek, hide not from me

Forgive me, and not angry be

So shall I praise you free

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Psalm 27 v.14

Wait on the LORD, good courage take

He will help you and not forsake

Alleluia, Alleluia!

Take good courage, for your heart He

Will strengthen, he you presently

Shall aid you faithfully

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Psalm 28 v.7

The LORD my strength and shield He be

My heart trusted determinedly

Alleluia, Alleluia!

An I am helped and so rejoice

Will praise Him with my song and voice

'Tis good, for you His choice

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Psalm 30 v.5

His anger endures a moment

Then He is gracious, does relent

Alleluia, Alleluia!

In His favour there be life true

Weeping is changed to joy anew

From night to dark, e'en you

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Psalm 30 v.11

My mourning you have turned to dance

'Tis of your doing, not mere chance

Alleluia, Alleluia!

You have my sackcloth* put off sure

Guided me with gladness, your store

Of good remains e'ermore

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Psalm 30 v.12

So my tongue sings praise unto you

And with songs, melodies anew

Alleluia, Alleluia!

I will sing, not be silent hence

you see my heart and penitence

Close your presence I sense

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.A. 8.8.6.A. metre. The 'A's are for Alleluia time again! Me guinea pigs join in to praise with squeaks! We can't leave out little friends.

Good one Orchi, there is a lot to be said in the Psalms.

Thanks Gold. We know that not every verse of the Psalms is praise-y. Even here the Psalmist says he had 'sackcloth' in mourning, then comes through it, with his trust and his rest in his relationship with God. One lively chorus has the words (from part of Psalm 30) 'There may be pain in the night, (literal or spiritual 'night') but joy comes in the morning!' We know it may not just mean one night though.

Thanks UNCLE STEVE ~ Great uplifting Song & mesmerising Video ! love you selctions from the Psalms ! When I was doing research at UNI every week day (lunch break) I went into the Chapel and read a Psalm systematically and wrote a few notes ! As you know every verse is a *Treasure House of Truth !*

Thanks B&A. Yes, the Psalms seemed to be grouped in themes to some extent. Fido barks in praise, as well as in censoring!

Actions are far more important than singing His praise, morning, noon and night, for even the devil knows how to appease.

              But, please do sing

                Meowwwooooo! There's me singing! heehee.
