you might think us an unlikely bunch
consigned to a side room
today's chosen strangers
for front line action
five dedicated fighters
who knowingly may
face the final sacrifice
each of us committed
to put to death an evil invader
with not a second thought
but we are not the heroes here
the heroes of the day are those
who have voluneered their time
to bring tea, biscuits and good cheer
those who insert canulas into our veins
carefully administering mysterious drugs bags
which feed our intravenous drips
On parade today we are:-
Oncology's Chemotherapy Irregulars.

You and they (the volunteers) both are the heroes. I don't know, but I might give up spiritual help (my faith) if I was in the position of some people.
I send you human compassion anyway, if the spiritual side may not bring you much, or any, comfort.
You describe the need for unlikely strangers meeting to fight the good fight so heart-breakingly well my friend - and those volunteer heroes need such a tribute - - this goes into my favourites.
What a beautifully written poem about the unsung heroes in your life. The dedication you put into words is quite remarkable..Nice work, DA...
Thanks for sharing DA ~ Both ANGELA & I are familiar with the ravages of BIG-C. Physiotherapy & Massage can bring some relief ! In my case it is caring for Members of my Extended Family and Students (some as Young as 20) ~ Invaded by BIG-C. I love the Story of Marie Curie and the development of RADIUM in the fight against BIG-C. And The Marie Curie Nurses & The McMillan Nurse. Like yoiur Volunteers they are there when you need them ! Thanks for sharing an awesome TRIBUTE !
Blessings & Peace to YOU & YOURS
Yours BRIAN & ANGELA
