what do you do?

dusk arising

What do you do when someone you love as a friend
Is breaking their heart for the love of her man
In her eyes there is suffering
Sweet face is recovering

What do you do when her bruises still show
You'd love to steel her away but inside her you know
She still loves her man
Though she's given all she can

What do you do when the face you dream of each night
In the cold light of day shows the scars of her plight
A love of humility
Oh her feminine fragility

What do you do when to see her this way
Brings tears to your eyes at the end of the day
I know that i care too much
I know that i care too much

And what should i do having written this song
it's made me realise what i knew all along
But it's a two way street
In a place we don't seem to meet

What do you do when the words of the song,
Bring tears to my eyes as I sing along,
    Those tears filled with love,
    And words from above,
    Move forward in life,
    Where there is no strife.

Its hard to move on when your heart wants to stay.......... a tear-wrenching read D.A,

It would have been intolerable not to move on.

BRIAN here ~ Thanks for caring & sharing DA. In my 20 years experience (1999 - 2019) of being IN (and OUT) of LOVE ~ This is the most unkindest cut of all ! Someone YOU love being mistreated by someone SHE loves. Paradoxically (apropos your Two Way Street) I saw one such GIRL (Christine ~ arm in a sling & and a black eye) coming down an ESCALATOR as I was going up. She seemed in a daze. When I reached the top I rushed down again but CHRISTINE had gone ~ and I wept. Next time I saw her she was OK and said she had an accident @ work. She was still with DRACULA ! I moved away and we never met again. But I often wonder what would have happenned if we had both been GOING DOWN ? Great Poem in both Form & Function !

        Blessings & Peace & Joy

Thank you both. This was written as a very personal note to myself a good few years ago.

          And what did you do?

          • dusk arising

I walked, wasn't easy but anything else would have made a messy and painful situation much worse.

It is so hard to love someone who loves another.... Even more so if that person is being mistreated.
Huge sense of yearning. Great read.

Thank you Clara, I'm glad this recounts something from long ago when life still held the promise of opportunity.

OHHHHH! The emotional web in which we trap ourselves - all are victims of such tragedy

                • dusk arising

This was a very complicated situation, and cruel. I escaped with repairable hurt...... i can't tell you what became of others involved.

this is indeed a heartfelt song of a poem...

sometimes when things aint what they should be, we are moved to take some kind of action, whether it be in the form of a poem or the outbreak of war... at other times, it may be best to do nothing... whatever the case, these things are often remembered much later on in the day.....

I wonder what triggered today's post....

Simple answer really Neville. Recently i have been showing work i did thirty years or so ago. There is a lot of it and i have chosen the ones which hold certain memories. On re reading these pieces i am transported back. This particular piece takes me straight to a dingy city pub where the lady entered wearing winter sunglasses to join her sister and me for a lunchtime glass. Her sister had seen it all before and so i slowly became aware.... the scene is all there in my head.... and for me every reading will refresh the electricity of it.
