Shutter

vanessa wallace

The darkness of the room

The way the photograph feels in my hand

The way it felt to look at you through your window

The way it felt to know that you didn't suspect a thing when you saw a bright light flash outside your window

The way excitement flowed in my bloodstream, waiting to develop the picture

Now I'm holding it in my hand

Its almost like I'm getting to actually touch you

Almost

For now, I'll rely on the shutter of my camera

  • Comment from author about the poem: This write was something I wrote based purely on imagination. I don't exactly know what sparked it, but I like how it turned out. I would love to know your thoughts on this.

I can appreciate the inspiration behind these fine words.. there is a juxtapositioning between the snap of a camera shutting and the blink of an eye.. both capture moments and have often fascinated me...

That shutter can bring many wonderful images of your life all it needs is the image to come alive and be with you.

A picture tells a story, and your photograph is, and always will be, part of YOUR story.

A shutter will snap and there will be an image - your poem looked at what could be a substitute of reality and I thought that was quite a new take on the power of a camera. Thanks for sharing it with us Rose.
