Starship Is Anybody Out There.

Goldfinch60

These are the voyages of the Starship “Is Anybody Out There?”

It’s never ending mission to find new life, any life.

Sailing through the Universe

Hoping that the message “Is anybody out there?”

Will be answered, and new intelligent life discovered.

Life that will help us cure our planet

From the destruction into which it is plunging.

As we travel through the ether

Our wish is to find life,

Life that is moral and kind,

Life that helps each other

To a better future.

It is out there and has been with us,

Seen our world,

Seen the humanoids that are supposedly intelligent,

But they would not stay.

All they saw was the destruction of our world

That homo sapiens is bringing

To its catastrophic demise.

These creatures that rule Earth

Have no thought of this beautiful planet,

Only how much more can I have?

What force do I need to get more?

The more they take, the more we lose,

Until one day, there in space,

Will be this sphere,

Devoid of all life,

A barren wasted planet

That once was so vibrant.

It now sits circling its sun,

Just waiting to be reinhabited

By others from space,

Who wish to lead

A peaceful and fruitful life.

So once more the Starship asks the question

“Is anybody out there?”

“Anybody who can save us?”

The answer came there none.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I am watching (again) Star Trek The Next Generation and have just seen the one called 'Pen Pals' where Data answers a call "Is anybody out there" I knew I had written a poem about this but I had forgotten that I had written two, this is the second one written about three years ago.

We, as humans, may think we rule the earth but let us remember we only 'rule' the land. Most of our planet's surface is covered by sea where we are inferior to every marine life form. An environment where we do not see any particular species 'ruling the roost' but all behaving in a natural manner until man spills oil or suchlike.

Life on this planet will endure catastrophe after catastrophe but mankind is unlikely to be among those survivors.

As you can see, I found your piece a thought provoking read today.

Thank you d a. Your words certainly resonate with my own feelings, I cannot see mankind lasting very much longer unless somebody makes those in power see sense..

We should know these things, you and I. I mean, we were there on the Moon to welcome the first astronauts. So were we two the first on the moon?

      • Goldfinch60

No the others were there before us , they are even older than we are.

A captivating poem and crammed full with unfortunate truths about our own greedy species and an increasingly probable demise ......

        • Goldfinch60

Thank you Neville, yes it is so true.

        • Fay Slimm.

Such a sad but true wake-up call your posted today my friend - your verse helps us see what this earth desperately needs from its human population for greed brings naught but destruction.

          • Goldfinch60

Thank you Fay, yes it is greed that is ruining our world.

apparently they have found a planet with water and similar temperatures to us...
It just 600,000,00,000,000 miles away as well so every chance we could get there before Brexit

Angelas poem today is about Paradise ~ somewhere to escape from an ecologically dying Earth. She suggests that if Populated Planets (if they exist ?) are too distant ~ then One should travel to NZ ! She is now more hooked than I am !
