Good Time Girl

Neville

Good Time Girl

Just flicking through old brown photographs

Killing time growing old pretending not to care

Collecting dust and dandruff from her

Precious locks of hair

The walls of her apartment are littered

With the centrefolds of women’s magazines

She claims not be to a martyr

But admits to being many other things

Today she spends her time remembering

The many times she gave relief and once got

Fifteen quid plus syphilis from a politician

On the other side of town

Those Lib Dems have a lot to answer for!

Truly sad portrait of an ageing hooker probably wondering if the path which led to 'now' was ever worth it's cost upon her.

True story DA .. Nancy took me off the streets for a few nights way way back when I was indeed rough sleeping.. She had a heart of gold and never asked for anything in return... One of them that should never be forgot... Cheers and you are quite right, there is a lot more to her story worth telling...

Then please tell more Neville. Ladies of the night are so often portrayed as two dimensional hard case lost causes which is an image ready to be dispelled.

Such a pitiable yet in some ways quite memorable time to be in is the picture you pen of a once-pretty girl - - giving many relief and receiving far more than lucre has a very strong warning for those beginning the game.

We used to have the county contract to provide for the health needs of sex workers and many of them were truly salt of the earth characters and who for various reasons had fallen on hard times and needed to put bread on the table... thank you Fay...... Neville

I too in my health work have known a few of these ladies Nev and agree that their hearts are often as big as their bodies - life can be hard when times get tough and tough is hardly the word for some living in conditions these girls are born into................ more than education is needed to raise females from the results of "giving relief" to the many................. your verse has gone straight to my heart as it will with most of your readers methinks.................. Fay

I understand - some folk fall on bad times, their lives go downhill for whatever reason.
Meanwhile - Oh, I dunno, I will go mad and meet her, for a bit of a 'good time'! lol. Fido says can he come along too?! Has the 'girl' got a lady dog he could meet?! Ooh!

thank you for considering these words.... I think it best if Fido stayed at home on this occasion..... Neville

Sometimes we do not real people inside, it is unfortunate that she had to go down that path but sometimes it is the only way to live.

My son works in Social Services in the prisons and he says how great some of the inmates are in ordinary ways, they just went wrong in one particular way.

                Great write Neville.

Nicely written, but rather sad. Really conjures up a lasting impression
