Snare Snapped

Tune: Malvern

('Jesus, where'er thy people meet')

Psalm 124

***********

If the LORD was not on our side

Men would o'ercome us and deride

For they would soon against us rise

Seeking to claim our lives their prize

They would have swallowed us alive

And sure would too bereave, deprive

When their anger was then kindled

Their wrath not abate nor dwindled

Then the waters they would o'erwhelm

As if a ship with none at helm

The stream would have gone o'er our soul

And oppressions would take their toll

The proud would persecute us, see

But blessed the name of the LORD be

He has not given us as prey

For them to consume, lost [is] their day

They lose their prey, but we, our soul

Is escaped, as a bird, kept whole

For snare is broken, we set free

Not bounded nor entrapped we be

So thanks and praise the LORD we give

He rescues us, through Him we live

Our help is in His name, [of] great worth

He LORD, maker of heaven and earth

Thanks N. Title bit ambiguous - could mean snare snapped shut and trapped us. But it means the opposite here!
