We all play the game, follow the rules
Are not ourselves and behave like fools
We think we must put on a different face
Change our attitude, vary our pace
We blindly follow a divergent star
Instead of being who we really are
To be ourselves would be really nice
Doing things without thinking twice
Show we are truly happy or sad
Depending on the day we had
Follow our feelings deep inside
Put the masks at long last aside
What a glorious day this will be
No more game – simply me

And oh how second these word Fred - - you describe the futility of wearing different masks so expertly with this admirable rhyme. I love that final couplet which says it all.......... thanks for this needed reminder my friend.
Thanks Fay, it is funny how people behave the way they think they should behave based on position, job, social standing, etc. Probably the only one who does not behave the way he should is our president! 🙂
We all put on masks in different situations but we know that when we are alone or with our loved one the real 'me' is there.
You are so right Goldfinch, at least at home we can be ourselves. But some get so used to the alter ego, they forget who they really are.
You playing chess there, or tiddlywinks, or what game?! heehee. Good write Fred.
We are all playing the game of life where there will be no losers, only winners.
How true you are sir, deceptively true, and a poet too.... my word...
All Good Things,
Neville
Thanks so much Neville! About the poet though, not so sure. The jury is still out on that one.
