Where do we go when we die?
Is there a Heaven or Hell?
Whether Stairway or Highway,
Is death not a final farewell?
Or, once gone, is there nothing?
Do we merely cease to exist?
Living on only in memories
Of the people by whom we are missed.
Or perhaps we return as another,
The slate completely wiped clean,
Human, insect, mammal or bird,
With no memory of all that has been.
I like the first law of Thermodynamics;
That no energy is created or destroyed.
Our atoms will simply become something new,
Each merely otherwise employed.

BRIAN & ANGELA HERE ! Welcome to MPS KIRSTY ~ Thanks for your first Poem ! Excellent Structure ~ four balanced quatrains with good metre and a consident Rhyme Pattern xaxa xbxb etc. The Subject is very interesting !
V1. Eternal Life - In Heaven (with GOD) or Hell (without GOD) - GOD decides ! Unlike other Animals MAN has an imortal SOUL therefore we live on somewhere for ever !
V2. Death is the END !
V3. REINCARNATION ! After Death we can come back to EARTH as another Human or an insect or an Animal ! I want to be a pampered CAT !
V4. All Matter consists of the 92 naturally occuring ELEMENTS from HYDROGEN (1) to URANIUM (92). When a plant or an animal or a HUMAN die their constiuant ELEMENTS are recycled throughout Planet Earth (not an atom is lost !) by the natural CYCLES ! Carbon - Nitrogen - Oxygen - Phosphorus etc etc. That what will happen to out PHYSICAL BODIES after DEATH - Whether we are CREMATED ~ BURIED or DIE @ SEA ! Religion would argue that the Imortal Human Soul passes out of the Earths orbit into anorher dimension ! There is much food for thought in your excellent POEM !
