Gone To Glory - In Memory of J.W.

orchidee

Tune: Christchurch

('Now is eternal life')

*******

Glad soul, leave vale of tears (this world)

The Lord to you appears

Enter your glory-home

To where you now have come

Bright splendours of eternal day

Where all of night has passed away

When here, you played your part

The Spirit in your heart

Faithful, gentle, and pure

Your Lord you did adore

Your Lord and King and Saviour, he

None other than Christ Jesus be

Though us here left behind

Christ's comfort we may find

Our sorrow it not be

As the world's sorrow, see

For one day, e'en soon, all shall meet

Around the King of glory's feet

O hope of all mankind

None else we can e'er find

Who does bring salvation

To all of each nation

Help us Lord by faith, to you turn

And your will and ways to discern

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.6.6.8.8. metre, in memory of one passed away recently. He liked to use 'thee' and 'thou'. He was one of the Minister's 'right-hand men' at a church I know, and occasionally go to. Now there is a gap as he is gone. Verse 1: Nearly all of this came to me, as I walked about town the same day hearing this news. Verse 2: Based on tribute to him in a Church Newsletter. But most embarrassing typo - it said he passed away 9th Dec 2019 (not 9th Oct). In which case, he has not gone yet. Argh, it pays to check text!

An excellent poem and tribute Steve. I also like to use 'thee' and 'thou' when e're I can (Yorkshire folk do!). I once wrote a poem called 'Three Score Years and Ten' when I discovered that the 'New World Translation' of the bible, used by the Jehovah's Witnesses (co-incidentally JW), had replaced this phrase (re: Psalm 90) with 'seventy years' (how unimaginative). I will post it on MPS one day.

    Kind regards, Alan

ANGELA HERE - Finished Clinics @ 4pm so Im catching up with MPS. My Parents are very Middlee Class (SPANISH) so we have a formal Dinner @ 7pm ! Brian has an Evening Class (Biology A level) so he will come round later to help me to finish the Rioja (He is on HIS BIKE) See Our Fusion ! Loved the Hymn and the tribute to your Friend. We do not sorrow like NON-CHRISTIANS because we have the Blessed Hope of Glory ! This truth is evident from your emotive Poem. Thanks for caring & sharing !
