DRY STONE WALLS ๐Ÿงก ANGELA & BRIAN ๐Ÿ’œ A PANTOUM

ANGELA & BRIAN

A SIGN OF THE TIMES ~ DRY STONE WALLS ~ REPLACED BY BARBED WIRE !

A WALL OF PENNINE STONE I SEE

A rough hewn WALL of quarried STONE

Reminds us how things used to be

By Horse & Cart from quarry borne !

A rough hewn WALL of quarried STONE

Such sturdy WALLS they used to build

By Horse & Cart from quarry borne

Unnamed Stone Masons ~ rural skills !

Such sturdy WALLS they used to build

WALLS that lasted cent*ries long

Unnamed Stone Masons ~ rural skills

These WALLS still ring with Hist*rys Song !

WALLS that lasted cent*ries long

But now replaced by WIRE BARBED

These WALLS still ring with Hist*rys Song

Replaced by FENCE that has no CHARM !

But now replaced by WIRE BARBED

Reminds us how things used to be

Replaced by FENCE that has no charm

A WALL OF PENNINE STONE I SEE !

Thanks for your visit ~ comments welcome ~ LOVE ~ A & B ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™

REPETITION is important in Spoken Poetry so the PANTOUM style of

Poetry was developed in which each 2nd & 4th line in the QUATRAIN

becomes the 1st & 3rd line in the subsequent verse ! In order that lines

ONE & THREE in verse ONE are repeated ~ Line 3 (V1) becomes line 2

in the Final Verse and Line 1 (V1) becomes line 4 ! So the PANTOUM

ends where it began !  Pantoums can have as many QUATRAINS as one

wishes !  This POEM can be sung as a FOLK SONG ~ Rt Hand on Rt EAR !

We walked by many stone walls in the Yorkshire Dales where we spent many of our holidays.

Good Morning UNCLE ANDY ~ Pleased it revived fond memories ! We lived in Leeds for a while and Ilkley Moor (sans chapeau) etc was great Walking Country ! We sing *While Shepherds watched their Flocks by Night ............ !* to Ilkley Moor Baht*at ! It seems very fitting as it is Sheep Country !

Blessings & Poece to YOU & YOUR Lovely JOYCE

I love this poem A&B. Where I live I am surrounded by dry-stone walls (even around my home), There are miles and miles of them. New dry walls are still built here and, of course, old ones repaired. I could go out tomorrow (weather permitting) and find people working on them. It's like painting the Forth Bridge ~ when you get to the end you go back to the beginning. ("To make an end is to make a beginning, the end is where we start from" ~ T.S. Elliot).

I would like to make your poem an A&B Fave if I may.

        Ex animo, Alan

I didn't like that B'ah tat tune to the hymn at first, but I've come to like it - unusual it is!
