Tune: Ash Grove
(Sent forth by God's blessing')
Adapted with permission from poem
'Meltham's Reverent Son' by Alan S. Jeeves
************
Away in Yorkshire's bounds
Within the Pennine Hills
A piece between the valleys and the rivers
Obscure in Yorkshire's grounds
With ghosts of ancient mills
In every way the ambience delivers
To live there as a child
Amidst the moors and woods
To thrive within a place where nature nurtures
To learn Nurtura's truth
And thankful for her goods
To worship in the many parish churches
To sing beside the choir
With family and friends
To be there and to be stronger than the test
To range within the flock
And then wind back the clock
And envisage how your bygone days were blessed
To win your daily crust
Continues your story
Governed by so many salient factors
Bestow family's trust
Where there craftsman's glory
Applying special skills creating tractors
But die of life was cast
As often is the case
The font of man's employment peeléd its knell
The good days did not last
Disappeared without trace
Hark, the tolling of the futile, closing bell
Though from ashes of past
A reflection remains
To celebrate the rich gemstone in the hills
A time when now, at last
Poignant thought one retains
Everything, all that anamnesis instills

- Comment from author about the poem: A song-poem in 6.6.11.6.6.11. 6.6.11.6.6.11. metre, using a hymn tune, unusually with 12 lines per stanza. About 98% of this is Alan's own words. I have only needed to tweak it slightly to fit the metre.

Very nice too Steve. Nice choice of words if I may say so.
I have a friend, a minister, who has an ash grove in her garden, although she prefers to call them rowan trees ~ Ah well!
Kind regards, Alan
Thanks Alan.
I can see the scene as this is played - Mandi Berles reaches out waving her arms and joins in - does Fido join in?
Thanks M. Yes, Fido too! lol.
