Legacy
Do not tell me you do not believe in change
Out of your mind, you must be deranged
Snakes of doubt that poison your hope
Rejecting wings for a restricting iron rope
In a night of a thousand stars you gaze upon the dark
On a trail of a thousand paths upon none of which you embark
The odds are astronomical, you ask, what chance is there for success?
Only voices against a juggernaut, you claim, you’ll never clean this mess
What voice can dare to rise above the waves of greed and apathy?
Who’s to say there’s something to save, that we even wish to be free?
Oh the hypocrisy!
We stand upon a million hands, some known and others forgotten
The work of a million souls, the slowly dripping liberty they’ve begotten
Understand this, know it dearly, by betraying the present you betray the past
And compromise the future to foes who wish to see your hope breathe its last
There is a legacy to maintain, a history of progress won through blood and sweat
The relentless drive of change lighting the flames of freedom we can never forget
Every step you take, every word you speak, every breath you breathe is a debt
Their million eyes gaze down upon us, knowing their goal of liberty is not yet met
So, I implore you, do not dare reject their legacy, their efforts will not be in vain
Do not tell me you do not believe in change, that you do not believe in the value of their pain
Do not tell me you do not believe in dreams when you are living the dream of those slain
Do not dare disrespect their legacy, do not dare ever doubt that their hopes live on
Even when they lie in their unmarked graves, in a night of a thousand stars we are their dawn
We are their dawn, we are their sun, we are their legacy and yet we breathe on
The torch is in our hands, and whether we fail or succeed
Know that someday in that unknown future, we will be freed

Good to see you again poetboy.
Your words resonate and I hope that freedom is with us soon.
Saved after the first two lines, I believe its in me and I do fail when I'm unwilling to speak as this is that freedom they have to me. Never to be afraid of saying what we feel, one day our souls will move on to see this message prevail.
Great work and always appreciated
Thank you for sharing
Much peace and respect
