At last I was married
To Miss Joan Hunter Dunn.
And a little while later
She bore us a son.

A good write Gold. Aww, but why he wish bombs to fall on Slough? That's not that far from me. We're not friends with him!
Should I try this style? It would be a very short song, if I must sing - one verse!
A Subaltern's Love Song is an astounding poem, Andy, poetic license of course.
One must be very careful when naming names in poetry. J. Hunter Dunn was still living when this became a world wide, well known poem and deemed to be one of JB's finest.
She became Mrs. Joan Jackson and died in, I think, 2008. She did not, however, have JB's son.
The pen is mightier than the tennis racquet.
Ex animo, Alan
A very innovative challenge for sure. Haven't seen this done before. The inspiration for it is nice too.
An most engaging twenty words Andy rhymed as a challenge and hope it won hearers - that poem by JB has always been one of my favourites.
Good Evening UNCLE ANDTY ~ Ahhhhhhhhhhh *MISS JOAN HUNTER DUNN* a Betjeman Classic & one of his BEST ! Angela & I give talks on JB & his Poems. We share the recitation but this one always Falls to ME ! It is a delight to recite but it deserves to be recited slowly and with great respect ! Anyone who can work the WORD *EUONYMUS* (Winter Creeper ~ Flowering Plant) into a Poem deserves to be Poet Laureate ! There are some other delightful lines in the Poem and in my Literature Classes for Adults I lend would-be-Poets a portfolio of about 12 Betjamin Poems and ask then to read mark learn and inwardly digest them ! I ask them to recite their fave and I play it back to the GROUP.. As Tommy Dorsey said to SINATRA to be an effective SINGER you have to *MILK THE WORDS like CROSBY* Its the same with being a PERFORMANCE POET ~ One has to *MILK THE WORDS* and JBs words are very very milkable !
We love the actual last verse :
The scent of her wrap - and the words never said
And the ominous ominous dancing ahead
We sat in the Car Park till twenty to one
And now Im engaged to MISS JOAN HUNTER DUNN !
The cars mentioned HILLMAN - AUSTIN - ROVERS - Betray the ERA !
Blessings & Peace to YOU & YOUR Beloved JOYCE
Love BRIAN & ANGELA 💚🧡💚🧡💚🧡💚
