Tune: Puer Nobis
('Unto us a boy is born')
Matthew 2 v.13-18
For Holy Innocents Day: Dec 28
********
Murderous, maniacal
Here on earth a hell all
News of a King, Jesus, heard
King Herod, enraged at word
King Herod, enraged at word
Escape, little family
Mary, Joseph, babe be
Jesus Christ, by God they led
To Egypt, path they did tread
To Egypt, path they did tread
Sheath your swords, this bitter curse
In your deeds, they perverse
Killing boys, their age they be
Two and under, horrors see
Two and under, horrors see
So voices heard, great laments
Of parents, no relents
In their mourning, weeping strong
For their children day, night long
For their children day, night long
For they bereaved, no comfort
Can they take from their lot
Rest now, Holy Innocents
Your pain so cruel, so intense
your pain so cruel, so intense
Help us stand not idly by
Love and care none deny
Save children from suffering
Innocently, your peace bring
Innocently, your peace bring

- Comment from author about the poem: A carol-poem in 7.6.7.7.7. metre. The mood of Christmas changes - a dark event. The event would have been after the visit of the wise men to Herod, a bit after Christmas, but is observed in the 'church year' just after Christmas.

Sometimes - do you weep at your own poems, while writing them, or having written them?
(Not cos of any poor quality of them! oops! But seriously....)
Thanks Maxine. Some evil people will stop at nothing, it seems.
Beautiful just sprang to mind. Nice writing skills there, orchi...!!!
Thanks Kevin.
Any one who harms children should not come my way, in my previous Christian life I just could not reconcile the idea of Christian forgiveness to anybody who harms children.
Good write Orchi.
Thanks Gold.
