Christmas Comfort

orchidee

Tune: Yorkshire

('Christians awake, salute the happy morn')

*********

Awake to life, come praise, and here now see

The new-born babe laid in a manger, He

Be Jesus Christ, God the Father's only Son

He came to earth, a Saviour for each one

Lowly His birth, yet He the King of Kings

Let all creation rest beneath His wings

He came and lived, full human, full divine

Among us, He the Light of Life did shine

Still shining now, He reigns from heaven above

Rules all nations with justice, mercy, love

He who did live, died, and then rose again

The hope and comfort sure unto all men

The angel Gabriel to Mary told

Good news of God's plan, how it would unfold

For she a virgin fair, it prophesied

Would bear the Christ-child, cannot be denied

God be His Father, by the Spirit's power

Blessings for all, on mankind He does shower

O turn our hearts where we be dull or dim

Ever, only to focus upon Him

Forgive, restore, show to us your ways plain

So we offer praise to you fresh again

Celebrating your birth we do rejoice

W the sheep of your fold, we be your choice

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10.10.10.10.10. metre. I have aimed to look at some Carols that I have not covered as yet, or some repeat tunes to more well-known ones, while this Christmas season lasts.
