As I sit next to her, listening,
Listening to her breathing,
So loud, so hard.
I await that breath,
That final breath,
That tells me she has gone.
The breathing quietens,
I look deep into her face,
My love is with her
As she draws that final breath.
She moves on into a new world,
Free of pain,
Her mind clear at last.
The light of my life
Now gone,
Casting a shadow over me.
That shadow so heavy,
So heavy in my life,
Pulling me down,
Down into the depths,
The depths of my soul.
I sit looking at her,
The waiting has ended.
But I know that she will be waiting,
Waiting for me,
On that day when I will join her,
And our never failing love,
Will go on to eternity.

- Comment from author about the poem: Joyce passed away yesterday with me as ever by her side. The music is that which was played as she walked down the aisle to me on our wedding day.

Can we 'just be there' with you, in person, as it were - be with you in spirit, I mean?
'The Dayspring (Christ) has dawned at this season, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death....' (Luke 1 v.78,79).
.R.I.P. until you meet again eternity, as you say.
Great write 👌
You have shown us such beauty in your words leading to this time. I know you have prepared yourself in your own positive wholesome way.
I share your belief that this is not the end.
Life goes on, leading us to where? But we each must get there.
My heartfelt sympathy dear Andy - - how moving to read the saddest of yesterday's experience and the last breath of a dearly loved partner and wife - yet such love that you and Joyce shared will most surely go on forever for in writing down all your memories of happier times she will always be by your side.
Sincere condolences my friend.

As you start a New Year, Joyce (if I may) has started on a new journey. She has not left you, but awaits your joining her again - for yours is true love indeed.
Death is only a beginning, though we question it in the present.
Touching and beautiful.
My heartfelt condolence.
Andy,
So sorry for your loss, my poetic friend!
I can empathize with your beautiful words.

I don't expect you reply but know you read all the support, you have been and continue to be a great light for me. As I wipe the snot & tears away I thank Joyce for the light she had and let in you, each time I look at the moon I know that she is there and one day you will both be showing me the way.
Until that day we all join to look over our children, your inspirational poetry and energy will always help guide me.
Always appreciated
With the most peace and respect
Thank you my friend
