Creation Care-Takers

Tune: Lasst Uns Erfreuen

('All creatures of our God and King')

Psalm 8

*********

O LORD, our Lord, how excellent

Is your name, your grace to us sent

Alleluia, alleluia!

Your name o'er all the earth is high

Worthy of praise from land, sea, sky

You glorious, yet to us nigh

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Out of mouths of babes and infants

You have ordained praise, they you sense

Alleluia, alleluia!

Praise as strength to still enemy

All your foes shall defeated be

For you e'er reign eternally

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

You the great Creator of all

Moon, sun, stars, earth's terrestrial ball

Alleluia, alleluia!

So what i man, that you us mind?

You look on us, for you are kind

And we your graces, mercies find

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

You have made man little lower

Than the angels, through you we flower

Alleluia, alleluia!

You crowned him with honour, glory

Set him over all your works free

That we faithful care-takers be

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

To tend to oxen, sheep, cattle

To be over your creatures all

Alleluia, alleluia!

All animals, beasts of the field

Birds of air, fish of sea, you willed

That w good service to you yield

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

So LORD, how excellent your name

Be in all the earth, you the same

Alleluia, alleluia!

Lord God Almighty, who do reign

Fore evermore, and we do gain

Blessings by obedience unfeign[ed]

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8.8. metre with Alleluias. Hints of climate-change in this? Or at least that we be good care-takers of God's creatures.

Who is this lord fellah? Wouldnt u be better off praising the king? Surely a king is above a lord?
Or is this another case of unshedable childhood indoctrination of silly titles given to worship.
Why are most christians afraid to think outside the box?

    • orchidee

Thanks dusk. It's the same person - Lord and King - and many other titles too.
You may say I was indoctrinated - began Sunday School at age 3. Not that I have not lapsed at times since then. A few say I've been brain-washed, but I don't agree.

      • dusk arising

Not brain washed? All the poetry (?) you publish is set like a hymn as heard in the anglican church. We dont like to hear/see/tolerate religious fanatics of other than christian religions so why should we tolerate christian fanatics?

Wonderful to see that you're still sharing! I haven't participated here in a long while, but I do pop off and on to read the work of others on occasion. Well done!
