Buzzard.

Goldfinch60

Just hanging in the sky with effortless motion,

Swirling in wide lazy circles, going ever upward,

No wing beats on this fine, sunny, still day;

The occasional mew breaking the peace.

Eyes looking around for mile on mile;

Still going upwards, on this windless day,

Until at last the prey is seen, and like an arrow

It stoops to the ground with incredible speed.

When I come back I want to be a buzzard

Hanging in the sky with that effortless ease.

      Excellent Andy. We have buzzards near home and I can see them more or less daily. It's great to have a poem about them.

      Ex animo, Alan

        Thank you Alan. Where I play croquet we have buzzards around us and the occasional Red Kite - it is great.

        Andy.

        LOL are u sure you'd like to be a buzzard? Shall i bang a nail into the wall and hang you up there so you can get used to that staring down position?
        Joking apart these are truly marvellous beasts. Where i lived at upper wick there were a pair of buzzard and i was lucky to see them in their mating 'foreplay' where the pair locked talons and twirling around lost altitude at some speed. I'm not ornithologist but i have noticed there are both pale and darker birds locally. I wonder if the change is a seasonal thing or are they different species.

        Great to read you today.

          Thank you d a. You need two nails so that my arms can remain spread, you will need 6ft between the nails to get the full spread!
          I too love buzzards, the way they just hang in the air without effort.
          There are only one breed of buzzard in the country and the colour difference is just a difference of no particular significance.

          You capture the power of free-flight so well here - an exciting read Andy -- and the number is so very cool too.

                Orchidee, you write with the ease of your buzzard floating in the air. The flow of words is simply awe inspiring.
