A Golden Rose

Amelia R

A ruby glass rose sits upon a shelf, emanating love and affection,

Affection which would mesmerize any girl lucky to acquire such an object,

Every day she looks at it thinking of the one who so kindly gifted this flower,

The special someone who gave a rose in exchange for a heart.

Some may look in bewilderment as she sits obsessing over the rose,

Although painted gold, petal by petal she wonders if it could turn to dust,

For once a rose dies, like a phoenix it may live on in her heart,

Or burn a hole too hollow to stitch back a life.

Months go by and she realizes its purpose,

For it was not the gift that led her to be captured by this rose,

But the promise of everlasting love so special as to not ruin this flower,

So, it sits there glistening - painted and polished as to not wilt away like many before.

Beautiful and so meaningful. That rose is love unbounded.
