Contentment in Christ

Tune: Ye Banks And Braes

('We cannot measure how you heal')

1 Timothy 6 v.7-12

***********

Into this world we brought nothing

And certain cannot anything

We take out with us when we leave

This world, 'tis true, and no deceive

So having food (and drink), clothing, so let

Us be content, not seek to get

Many riches, for such shall fall

Into temptation, a snare all

And too many foolish, hurtful

Things to the greedy shall befall

Which drown people in destruction

And lead to ruin, perdition

For the love of money it be

The root of all kinds of evil, see

Which some have coveted, and they

Have found sorrows and rued this day

But let us follow righteousness

The qualities the Lord will bless

Godliness, faith, love, and patience

Meekness, such shall be good for us

To pursue, and fight the good fight

Of faith, we soldiers of the light

Lay hold on eternal life here

Until Christ our Saviour appear

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. 8.8.8.8. metre. Maybe not as contentious as the 'Widows' poem recently, though St Paul wrote of things, some of which were particular to his day and age.

Notice that well-know known wedding-hymn in the poem: 'Fight the good fight!' heehee.

Like Unsub, Christ is no longer for me only as the worlds first hippie.

Thanks Gold. I suspect more than that though, for you. I wouldn't like to be at church myself only for a hippie. 🙂

I want to fight someone, but I want to keep my teeth. Also, is everyone here an atheist? lol

Thanks N. Take the teeth out first then (ooh, cheeky of me! lol).
