There are good people around.
In these winds fences have come down,
Needed to be fixed.
There comes the knock on the door,
The door of an elderly lady.
A young man stood there,
“Good day ma’am” he says
“Would you like me to fix your fence?”
He asks,
“What will it cost me?” she replies,
“Oh there will be no charge,
I’ll do it for free”
The lady is taken aback,
But he meant it.
A young man doing his bit
Helping the elderly
Wherever he could,
For no charge,
Except maybe a cup of tea.
It is so good to see,
That there are good people around.

- Comment from author about the poem: I saw this on the news last night. In the strong winds we have been having a young man who was in the fencing trade was going to the elderly around where he lived and asking them if he could fix or replace their fences that had been broken or fallen down. He was doing this free of charge as he said he could make enough in his fencing business to help the elderly for free. There are good people around.

A fine write Gold. Yes, a craftsman too helped a country abroad, where stained-glass windows in their church had been bombed.
What makes us furious is con-men. They may stop us and say 'Hi mate; I did your garden recently; you've not paid me for it yet!' And we don't even know the shifty-looking guys.
Thanks Orchi. Yes there are shifty people around but there are good people as well.

Yes, good people around too. That event has happened to me twice. Difficult for vulnerable people who may be conned by it.
I LOVE that. It fills you with hope for humanity. Lovely poem.
Thank you SC, it moved me when I saw it on TV.

How very refreshing Andy... and well deserving of a poetic capture... a rare thing these days..... If ya know where the guy lives... point him in my direction... I could use a hand...… N
Thank you Neville. Sorry I missed his address but I will get it when he comes round to me to replace my fence.
Andy
cheers.....
Good afternoon Uncle Andy - ANGELA here - just finished my afternoon clinic and having an Earl Grey before catching upon my Paper Work ! Just checking MPS ! Love the ALBINONI - thats what I call real Soul Music. My No 1. music genere is the CLASSICS ! That adagio would be ideal to sooth my clients while I torture them. I persuaded my BOSS to let me have ALEXA in my Salon and a lot of them choose Cool Jazz to ease the pain and I do a Thersa May Jiggle to make them laugh !
Love your POEM and its message *Be Ye Kind to one another* Brian has posted on TRUE LOVE today based on Pauls Love Letter to Corinth ! One of Pauls edicts is *Love is Kind* Amen ! We have a lot of keen gardeners in Brians Church (we hope to have our own soon !) and in March they have a Team that prepares the Gardens of the Elderly for Spring in exchange for Tea & Hot Cross Buns ! We both supply services for FREE for those in need. Todays Society is very cash orientated and in many cases exploitive of the elderly. This is the antithesis of your message today - thanks for caring & sharing !
Blessings & Peace to YOU & YOURS
Love ANGELA 💛💛💛💛💛
Very thoughtful of you to immortalize the good deeds of that young man. Yes, it's good to know that such folks still exist. This was a fine bit of humanity that brightened my day. Nice poem. - Phil A.
Thank you Phil, yes it was great to see this young man doing this work in this way, a fine person.
Andy
