Murmuration

Jane Frye

In the amber light,
Just before the darkness of night,
The starlings took flight,
In a dazzling dance that took my breath away.
Synchronized in every sway
They whirled in waves every which way.
A mesmerizing aerial ballet.

A staggering thousand, maybe more
Flying in unison over the shore.
Dancing to music I'll never know,
For reasons beyond where my imagination can go.
An audience of one, with a tear-streaked face,
for witnessing such beauty...such grace.

Beautiful poem. The murmeration of birds is completely hypnotising and spellbinding. An ocean of wings on the deep blue sky!

Spellbinding and hypnotising; good words to describe murmurations. Watching them moved me. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my poem.

Those murmurations of starlings are one of the most wonderful sites in the world. I can understand the 'tear-streaked face' as I am pulled into tears of wonder at the sight of this beauty.

Thank you, Andy. I hope we never fail to be awed by nature.
