Sunday

TWENTY3

Sunday

Tired and alone

I stare at my sorry reflection

I engage in conversation but there’s no response

Just vacant eyes staring back into my void

Children run past my window unaware of the brutality of this world

Innocent, but soon to fall foul of the despair of life

I force a smile in memory to my own childhood

I remember being happy, but can’t recall how that felt

Today is Sunday

The good people will go to church and praise their God

What praise could I offer to this demon of men

He has not mind-washed me or taken control

But he still has a hold of me

Squeezing every inch of existence out of me

I will die, of that I can be sure

But not with guilt or sin hanging around my neck

Hell will greet me with open arms

Heaven is not there for me, no God waiting

He left me long ago and left me to the wolves

These wolves snap and snarl

But I am no longer scared of their teeth

I want them to take a bite

But it seems they prefer to watch me suffer first

I have survived another week

I look forward to beating this God by living another week

He is testing me, but I am not giving up

Not yet, but maybe tomorrow

I’ll no longer have the strength or desire to fight

We’ll have to wait and see

Good Evening EBBnFLOW (thats Life !) welcome to MPS it is a very empathetic Site. It operates by reading & commenting on each other POEMS ~ OK. Your Poem is a good example of a MELANCHOLIC MUSE ~ espressed in 30 very intersting lines of Free Verse ! We get many Melanchloic Muses on MPS ! Your Poem reminded me of Johnny Cashs *Sunday morning Coming Down* check on YOUTUBE ~ OK. Sunday is an intersting day because in the UK it is (for most) a Day of Rest but also Worship & Introspection.
LINES 1 - 9 Paint a sad picture. Your mirror image reflects your life ~ Despairing ! You cant even recall the the happiness of you own Childhood ~ and *Today is Sunday !*
LINES 10 -17 Sunday is a a *Day of Worship* my Fiancee Angela & I ~ but many have no Praise to offer. You do not feel any guilt ~ but that your Destiny is HELL not HEAVEN ! However you feel you will be welcomed (in HELL) with Open Arms !
LINES 18 - 24 You imply GOD has forsaken You ~ and left you to the Wolves ~ BUT ~ despite this you have suvived another WEEK !
LINES 25 - 30 You imply LIFE is a fight against the ODDS (and the GODS ?) and many would agree with you !

    Peace & Joy & Survival !
    Yours ANGELA & BRIAN

please remember that poets dont always write about themselves. This was written about somebodyelse. Thank you for your words

      To Usnub
i have to agree with you about sunday workers and church goers. I work most sundays and even if i didnt i would not waste my time going to a chgurch. you make me laugh with your welcome to the forum of made up facts

Welcome to mps. This is a great first piece from you. You have your own style and should not pay too much attention to those who would have you 'do it their way'. In the end your way will be your choice.

I'd encourage you to read much of the poetry contributed here and find styles which appeal to you (if any LOL). That way you may find yourself absorbing some features of other contributors style into your own as your writing continues.

By all means feel free to rip the hell out of anything i have contributed on mps. I'm guess i'm a bit of a chameleon changing from one style to another.
Looking for ward to seeing more from you.

        thank you for your welcome
i have a style but need to read others to see if my style can evolve

      • myself and me

God is not inside the church. At least, you could use Sunday to write. Nice writing. Welcome.

god is not in church that is correct. a church is just an empty house of foprgotten times. i think we are clever enough now to know its just a load of balony. but people sometimes need some false hope to make their lives worthwhile although i can do quite happily wiothout it

HI TWENTY3 ~ Further to UNSUBS comment & your comment on my comment ! (Hope that makes sense !) Sunday really is non-working day for 90% of the UK Population so they can in fact choose to do waht they want on a Sunday ! Rest ~ Play ~ Shop or even Go to Church ~ 5% do in fact choose to do so ! The Stats for Sunday are that only 50% of the UK Population work and out of the total Population of 68 million only 10% work on a Sunday. In my book 90% is a very large majority of people who have SUNDAY FREE to spend as they choose. Im not arguing with the fact that only 5% of the Population choose to attend a Christian Church on Sunday but it is still a lot of people 3,400,000 !

            Yours BRIAN !

LOL seeing as the roman catholic church is the wealthiest business in the world (a fact worth checking out on google for any doubters) i guess it likes to rhink it can have a day off ..... but why do catholic priests (and other catholic ranks) have to work on sundays? another dual standard perhaps?

              • ANGELA & BRIAN

ANGELA HERE - Thanks DA - I was raised a Catholic (my Parents are Catholic) but now I attend an Evangelical Church with BRIAN. My Parents are happy about this and are just pleased that at the age of 31 Im still a committed Christian and attend Church every Sunday. Because Im living at Home till my marriage in April I do attend mass with them once a Month. Both Catholoscism & Evangelicals are Christian Churches and use the same Bible and sing similar Hyms and hold regular Communion Services etc there are noticable differences especially in a Catholic Country like Spain were I spent some of my Childhood. Mi Padre es Espanol ! The RC Churches are much more elaborate and their Services much more ritualistic and there are many many Salaried Staff - Bishops - Priests - Nuns etc. The World Wide Roman Catholic Church is very Wealthy but is also very expensive to maintain ! They are involved in Much Social & Missionary Work and run thousands of School and Hospitals & Hospices. For me the good it does far outweighs any areas in which it fails to follow the Principles of he Scriptures. The Evangelical Churches meet in very simple Buildings (often using Schools on a Sunday) many of their Leaders are unpaid so they dont have the vast overheads of the Catholic Church. Their style of worship is very flexible so they can be geared to the Times & Culture of the Country they opperate in. Evangelicals & Penticostals are the fastest growing branches of the Church Worldwide.
To get back to your point. Yes it is a PARADOX that Sabatarian Preachers who rant & rave against the evils of Sunday Opening & Sunday Sport & Sunday Working ~ themselves worwk from 8am to 9pm on a SUNDAY ~ Their MANTRA is *KEEP SUNDAY SPECIAL* However most of them get a MONDAY OFF !

Thanks for your comment it made me think !
Blessings & Peace to YOU & YOURS
                Yours ANGELA ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›
