Spring Knows.

Fay Slimm.

Spring Knows.

Tomorrow's plants curl in frozen patches
as snow-mottled clouds

hang unseasonally low over east-winds.

Surge of change has entered air's passage
as Spring, Winter-dazed,

sluggishly pushes awake greening things.

Lifeless and naked upstanding iced vines
shivering fruitless

dream of times full of graped ruby juices.

Nothing is wasted to rile nature's mind,

no move uncertain,

objectives defined, new becomes rooted.

Cold it may be but Spring knows its duty.

  • Fay Slimm.

Though written a while ago the latest weather has made me re-post the poem today. - - -- thinking too of the flood devastation along with the cold some places are getting - - roll on drier Spring-time we pray..

  • dusk arising

Oh what a superior final line. Sgt Major Nature commands his bulb forces "c'mon me hearties - up and at 'em.... you ain't gonna let no shivvering breeze keep you in your beddie bies now are ya...... Lance Corporal Crocus.... show 'em 'ow it's done lad!"

I saw my first daffs yesterday in Cheltenham amid a lawn of crocus in purples and white.... oh springtime where art thou my lovely?

Well if spring gets washed out we shall have the delights of your words to warm our hearts i hope.

Love the way you have fun with personifying Nature - a great comment on how Spring has to be strong when winds and wet try to hamper its passage - and daffs in Cheltenham take me back Springs ago when I lived near there for a few seasons - - thanking you muchly D.A. for your ongoing support of my scribblings..

Yes, we trust Spring knows. Should we go by our diaries - Spring begins around March 21st 'officially', so mine says.
Meanwhile - cheer up folks, it's till Winter! I'm no help at all sometimes! heehee.
You have some things worse on the coasts though, I realise. I'm inland, and sometimes says 'Snow? Where?' when others have about 6 foot if it!

Thanking you kindly for your read and interesting comment dear Orchi.

So pleased you enjoyed the read my friend and yes I too am excited that Spring is just round the corner here in the U.K. - -- your visit and comment are much appreciated..

Just around the corner methinks… I can feel it in me tubers...

Good Evening FAY ~ You have presented us a challenge because Spring is a paradox ! Gentle as a LAMB but fiesty as a LION ! When one considers the enormity of the transition from the DEADNESS of WINTER (especially when blanketed in SNOW) to the VIVACITY of SPRING ~ SPRING has to be a very assertive Season. The Snowdrops have pushed their way up through the stubborn sod ~ only to be greeted by snow & ice ! The iced vines KNOW that they are the harbinger of a FRUTY vino tinto in Autumn ~ AMEN !
Love the last line: *Cold it may be ~ but Spring knows its Duty*

            Blessings & Peace & Joy

Your comments dear duo are always full of interesting detail and add to the subject which in this case is Spring - so pleased too you enjoyed the metaphor and that the final line gave you a smile. Lots of good wishes for warmer weather as your big day approaches.
