I saw a lot of myself in him
Especially, the sadness and the effort to smile
The way he spoke about life
The joke of it in his eyes
I saw what he saw though our lives weren't the same
But there was a recognition there of an old familiar pain
And then today I was told by colleagues and friends
That his story was over, a choice he had made
Yet all I can feel is the respect for his strength
Each day a battle that he won again and again.
But now it is over and he is finally free
And the part that I recognised says
It could have been me

This is a beautifully expressed poem. Full of emotion for your friend. Sorry for your loss.
A sensitive write Crow.
An emotive tribute to a friend whom now gone you surely understood better than most as stated in that powerful last line. A moving read.
An impressive tribute dedicated to a much loved friend and a clear testimony to the influence he had on you... May Jamie RIP....
