what i missed

Hazel Kaye

I brushed my lips against your cheek

you tensed

and told me I missed;

you were right.

I missed the way your arms felt

around my waist -

your mouth

curving as you laugh at my jokes

lips parted with promises

of all the beautiful words

you have yet to say to me -

the glimmer in your eyes when you look at me

through me

and see me in a way that no one else has

or will.
