Came the Day.

Goldfinch60

Came the day,

The day when it happened.

New life was within me,

That new life that brought joy,

So much joy to my world.

A son would be born,

Bringing light to my future.

Came the day,

The day when it happened.

That new life went from me,

That joy was taken from my heart,

So much sadness to my world.

My son was no longer there,

Too beautiful to live on this earth.

Came the day,

The day when it happened.

I looked up into the sky,

A new star was there

Looking down on me

As I stood near the ocean.

I knew that new star was him,

Shining on me through heavens floor.

  • Comment from author about the poem: At the Coffee House where I go regularly (not at the moment unfortunately) the manager was interested in poetry and subsequently many of my poems adorn the walls. I also have a poster on the wall saying that if anybody would like me to write a poem for them just let me know - I have had a few replies but this is one I had yesterday: "Andy, I have had a photograph saved to my phone since October 18th 2019, taken in Coffee #1, of your poetry poster. The reason for this is, on September 10th I lost my child to a silent miscarriage. This first time I got ready and willingly left my house was to go to a garden centre in Evesham, followed by a coffee, in Coffee #1, with my partner. I order our drinks and whilst waiting, gave a donation to the Samaritans and took a picture of your poster. I have been waiting for the right opportunity to write to you -  today is the right moment. March 31st was my due date. Today I am quarantined at home alone. I planned to go away for this date, to stand near the ocean, and say a prayer. Instead, I am sat in my garden, listening to Ocean Sounds on Spotify and painting. Your poems came to mind.   I would like to ask for your help, in writing me a poem that I can hold close to my heart. A poem about my son, who was too beautiful to walk on this earth. Kind regards, Madeleine."

You write with feeling and empathy for this lady today G. One can't but hope the approaching years are kinder for her.

Thank you d a, I sort of know what she is going through as in my first marriage we lost our first child through a miscarriage. Our eight years together produced two more wonderful children so I am sure that all will be fine for her.

I think you've given her the gift she was seeking, a way to memorialize her son. A bright shining star, now.
And your poem is emotional and heartfelt. Loved it, - Phil A.

Thank you so much Phil, I do hope that star will always shine for her.
