Back to the Seventies.

Goldfinch60

Here I am

In my seventies,

But I am expected to go back,

Back to the seventies,

The nineteen seventies

When long hair was the fashion.

Yes I was there,

Long hair,

Moustache,

Flares,

Platform shoes,

Kipper tie

A dedicated follower of fashion.

So I will go back

But the clothes don’t fit,

The ties have departed,

But the hair will be back,

Not the moustache though,

Not this time.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The picture is of my daughter and I in 1973, the year she was born, when my son was born two years later I had a beard as well, he did not see me without a beard for the first five years of his life. The way things are going the hair may well be that long once more.

Blimey, look at you back then. During the 70's i was in several bands/groups and looking back on the stuff i wore on stage is making me smile. Perhaps my hey-day was early 70's when i fronted a soul band wearing a n-gg-r brown pinstripe 3 piece suit which made me feel quite the 'dogs b-ll-cks'.
There were 'loon pants' budgie jackets, ox-blood zip-up boots and later that same era came those stacked soles and baggy trousers. Thank goodness we were youngsters. I have no idea what is fashionable now but an awful lot of people do just seem to look a mess.
My current look is shaven head and a goatee beard which i am allowing to grow as long as it will throughout this isolation period.

Thanks for giving me a good humourous read and taking me back to those formative years. Stay safe.

One of my memories was at my brothers wedding long hair, beard, moustache, very pale grey suit with bell-bottom trousers, button down shirt, kipper tie and white platform shoes. Great times though.
I even remember the sixties so according to folklore I wasn't there!

Thank you Brian, the change was the sixties when we came out of the depressive fifties following WW2. It was a great time to be involved in and fashion really came to the fore for ordinary people and that continued into the seventies.

              Words bring back memories. Nostalgic.
