conformity

dusk arising

That was the year we
stopped killing the bees.
He lost both his parents then too.
Mary said she wanted a new car
with some of their money
but Joe said no and had an oak
bench placed in the park
in memory of Pearl and Steve.
Those were their final months too.
Joe went mountaineering.
Staring out now across the peaks
he wondered at the freedoms
he'd surrendered
for the conformity of being
between her thighs.

Conformity is all very well but stepping 'outside the box' brings wonderful unplanned times for us all.

    Always liked Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam.

Your comment today reminds me of a comment from one of the great jazz improvisers who said one of the best things he enjoyed was when he made a mistake whilst improvising because to cover it up it took him places he would never have thought of going.

Very true, there is never a wrong note in jazz "It is the note you felt you needed to play at that time".

A long time since I heard Cat - - thanks for sharing him Dusk - your verse echoes the finality of bruised relationships - - your prose makes an intriguing read.

Thank you Fay. Cat has an amazing voice and from the little i know of his work he was a very talented songwriter. Although a pop song, his early Matthew and Son was a very clever piece indeed.
Somehow losing important people in one's life can bring one to question the validity of what one is doing in life.

This box is too big. I can't get out of it. How will I ever think outside of it, and be un-conforming?! heehee.

Cardboard will be your downfall i can see this. It may be helpful to buy porridge which often comes in bags, leaving cardboard encase cornflakes upon their shelf.
