Verse 1
I get up in the morning,
Surprisingly late,
I normally surface at around, half-past eight,
Or am I telling lies, as I procrastinate?
Or maybe the Sun has yet to rise, but I start to fill my plate.
Chorus (repeat this after Verse 4)
It’s the Lockdown Blues,
A combination of some tears and some booze,
It’s the Lockdown Blues,
But you’ve gotta keep strong to win and never lose.
Verse 2
TV begins to blast,
With our new favourite stars,
There’s Johnson, there’s Hancock, there’s Jenrick, and even Dominic Raab,
Made to fabricate, or perhaps to mend our scars,
Or maybe like Cummings we should getaway in a tax-free paid car.
Verse 3
Thursday night comes,
Where we all celebrate,
We put our hands together for angels who kindly congregate,
Though the founder of that clap, wants to shut that gate,
Even that’s been taken from us, try to contain the hate.
Verse 4
You look inside the fridge,
Time to replenish the stock,
So, get your card, your bag for life, it’s time to take a walk,
But make sure you’re clean in quarantine, you wouldn’t want to baulk,
Or a second spike we’ll get, and we’ll stay in the dark.

- Comment from author about the poem: Thought I share something a little different today, some song lyrics that I have written earlier. Imagine that there's a cool blues shuffle beat, and some dirty bluesy guitar licks behind them. Hope you enjoy, and please continue to stay safe everyone.

Thanks, Angela and Brian and you are very welcome, glad that you have enjoyed it.
It would be interesting to see how far it'll go, maybe I could sing it whilst I am out and about to get into people's heads eh? 🙂
Thanks again and stay safe.
Ben.
All I need for that is to hear it sung in a bar somewhere and me with a pint in my hand.
Andy
I was thinking about the exact same thing when I finished writing it Andy, what a lovely scene it would be.
Hope all is well.
Ben
