Pentecost Promise

orchidee

Tune: Down Ampney

('Come down, O love divine')

Acts 2 v.14-21

*********

Pentecost, it fifty

Days after Easter be

God's promise of the Spirit sent, fulfilled, see

Person of God abides

In human hearts resides

It all His working and there none else besides

Peter did there explain

To early church, no feign

That it all happened as the Lord did ordain

It prophesied of old

By former prophets told

Empowering to share the gospel, true, bold

Joel in his prophecy

Old Testament days, see

That it would come ot pass in last days, so be

The Lord God said He will

His promise sure fulfil

Pour out His Spirit on all, for our fine weal* (*well-being)

There shall be prophecy

Visions and dreams too, see

On His servants and handmaids He will pour free

Prophecy, God's message

Spoken through every age

It traced faithfully through history's each page

He too wonders will show

And signs too we shall know

Blood, fire, and smoke in heaven, and earth below

Sun's sphere dark, moon red ball

Day of [the] Lord comes to all

They shall be saved who on the Lord's name do call

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.11. 6.6.11. for Pentecost, today (Sunday). There is a clip of people singing it, but it was rushed and gabbled, and spoilt the hymn. Sing all of it 'moderately slow' as noted in this clip - not gabbling the longer lines. Original very old, dating from around 15th Century.

Do you think they would let me into a church these days Orchidee? LOL Yes i know they would. As a tradesman/craftsman I love our heritage buildings and most churches are of course well preserved and have a well documented history. Whereas i don't go along with the christian tradition any longer i do enjoy several aspects of it all.

The likes of me would sure enough be shocked out of our socks if a godly happening such as you suggest were to be accompanied by actual evidence of a god existence wouldn't we.

Thanks dusk. Erm, I read a version of Scripture. a Chapter honestly started 'Once upon a time....'
Yep, all welcome, none beyond saving! Just don't commit the unforgivable sin by sitting in Mrs Whats-er-name's pew!

Is that the pew where all those years ago little Johnny P Quick carved his and her initials inside a heart with an arrow thru it? Cor! right under her bum every Sunday as she sits there remembering her favourite hymn (him).

Thanks Neville. You heard of Pentecost? Or 'Whitsun' for those of us about 5 million years old!

            Powerful words Orchi.

Thanks Fay. Erm, I didn't miss out the bit on tongues on purpose - though that need not be controversial!

Thanks UNCLE STEVE for an excellent Posting (Hymn & Poem) on the Holy Spirit. You & I and all *Born Again Believers* appreciate that without the *9 fruit of the Holy Spirit* we could not function individually as Christians - And without the *19 Gifts of the Spirit* the Church could not function either ! When talking about *The Day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit* we are on very very Sacred Ground indeed. Thanks for sharing on all our behalves ~ AMEN.

Blessings & Peace & Joy to YOU & Faithful FIDO
