Remembering a Poet

LaurašŸŒ»

Poet's Hill

"Well, Shakespeare can write a poem with his fine-feathered pen, so who knows when I can land upon the poet's hill? And then a consideration for many to wipe away the miles on my face—when you can say it with a story, love, and a little bit of grace."

  • Comment from author about the poem: Iā€™ve been reading Kevin Browneā€™s book of poetry, ā€œJust a Poet, Just a Poemā€. In honor of his birthday, Iā€˜ve posted one of the poems from his book. Writing poetry was his passionā€”a passion that made his physical pain bearable till the end. Poetic Dan dedicated a poem in Kevinā€™s memory, ā€œI met him on here & now I give more than a tear. R.i.p. (poet passed) Give it a readā€”ā€˜Tis worthy of your time.

what an absolutely wonderful gesture Laura ..

I did not realise it was Kev's birthday.. another selfless act of kindness..

He lived in Bath which is not too far from me and where I used to work. .. although he was very poorly we had agreed to meet up and have a pint .. sadly that was never to be.. I shall raise a glass to him tho this very eve.. and maybe one for your good self too....

      Neville,

I appreciate the read and comments.

As per my reply to Unsubā€™s comment, just a tiny birthday gift for a fellow Cancerian. He loved Italyā€”my birthplace! He was interested to know what part of Italy I was born. His eldest sister who was married to an Italian man for more than 35 years lives in Italy. His Italian brother-in-law passed away from cancer.

I felt so badly for Kevin.
His life was riddled with pain till the end.

Yes, do raise a glass or two on our behalf!
      Wine for me please.
      Salute! šŸ·

Kevin was an extraordinary poet beyond doubt. He painted pictures with lines from his life and created emotional scenery.
Not always the easiest of poets to read, a man most definitely in touch with his life's emotional gains and losses who opened himself up before our eyes often painfully so. I think his work was mostly appreciated in its richness by those who had felt life's blows and resurrections. I have never seen any work comparable to his.

His writing is without doubt missed here on mps.

          Dusk,

Yes, he was an ā€˜extraordinary poet
          beyond doubtā€™.
Thank you for reading and commenting. Your comments about Kevin are extraordinarily spot on.

I do miss reading here on MPS.

Ciao Laura - Grazie per este memoria. A fine Poet and a fine Poem. It underlines the truth that we have more Poetry in our Herats than we are ever able to express

            • Fay Slimm.

A wonderful gesture indeed as Kevin's work was very well received here on M.P.S. and his verses have a quality that revealed his depth - he was a poet to be remembered and thank you dear Laura for this gesture of love on his birthday

              • LaurašŸŒ»

                My Dear Fay,

He wanted his Mum and Dad to be proud of him. Please read my reply to Unsubā€™s comment.
Most of his poems are autobiographical. Reading his work was difficult sometimes because I know he had a painful and sometimes sad life. It meant a lot to him to write his poetry.
Heā€™s no longer on this earth; but I wanted to acknowledge his birthday. It has been my honor.

Thank for the read and for your comments!

I had no idea he had passed until now. We werent close, and we only exchanged a few words on here. But I enjoyed his writing immensely. Thank you for the memoriam.

                  siranswerer,

It was the least I could do for a wonderful human being. He will be missed .

I also was unaware of Kevin's passing. I myself haven't been here a lot in the past 2 years, but I do remember Kevin's writing and his always positive comments. Wonderful tribute here to Kevin on today his birthday. May Kevin forever be within the poetry here on MPS.

                    A C,

Yes, Kevin was a wonderful poet and brave human being. Even though he had to endure a lot of physical pain for the past five years, he was always positive; he never complained.

Thank you for reading and commenting.

Rest in paradise to a fallen poet.
How special it is to have left long lasting words that impacted the lives of others.
                      Fine tribute!

                            A P,

                            Thank you for the
                            birthday wishes.

                            July 3rd...
                            that magical day.
                            My parents wished for a Moon Child;
                            their wish was granted.

Yes, I was thinking of Kevin and also of someone else. I dedicated a poem about her tragic demise on 9/11.

If you would like to read it, itā€™s title is ā€œDowntown Girlā€.
