Tune: Quam Dilecta
('We love the place, O Lord')
Based on a Collect = Formal Prayer
*************
Lord, support us all day
Along life's troublous way
'Til this earthly life past
And evening shadows cast
'Til busy world is hushed
Your words not faint or crushed
When fever of life o'er
We reach the distant shore
Here work be done daily
There it be over, see
Then Lord in your mercy
Grant us lodging safely
A holy rest and peace
All sin and sorrow cease
At the last time you call
To our long home us all

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.6.6. metre. Based on a Formal Prayer used at Funerals/Thanksgiving Services. I gave a copy of this to a friend recently. It was the anniversary of her husband's departing to his 'long home'. She foudn the poem comforting.
