It’s my own fault.
I admit it!
I did it!
It shouldn’t have happened
But it just came over me.
I could not stop,
Try as I might,
It just had to be done.
So there it was,
I had done it
And knew I would regret it.
They were sitting there
Just waiting,
Waiting for me,
For me to eat.
I shouldn’t have done it,
I shouldn’t have cooked them,
Shouldn’t have cooked the shortbread.

You had that shortbread now? You scoffed the lot?! lol. Was there any in 1066. They could have come to tea with you, with shortbread, instead of listening to me mucking it up!
None left!!
Even back then there would have been no shortbread left!

reminds me of a poem by William Carlos Williams titled 'This is just to say'
immersive writing, with sublime subtext and quirky jest
Yes, I had the same impression. A good excuse to link to the MPS data base!

Ha ha - what a temptation a tray full of shortbread - no worries or regrets after a treat like that dear Andy.
Thank you Fay, they WERE very nice, mind you I have had years of practice making them.

Reminded me of William Carlos Williams' plums, but maybe the real analogy is to the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Adam and Eve could not resist that shortbread either, and we are still paying for it.
