Days Like These

Nicholas Browning

Emotionless hums fill the air

As droplets greet my skin,

On days like these thoughts fill my head,

And I forget the air up here, is thin.

How subtle the plummeting waves,

Their grace still loud enough

To anchor the weary mind.

Yet still melancholic,

And uniform,

Chanting blessings as they divide.

The gale just edging you forward,

While to others it must seem

Like a step in the wrong direction.

The little joys, and tiny words

That separate the natural, and synthetic,

Giving way, and releasing tension.

In the cold-clad life we walk each day,

One might think it lonesome, and solitary.

But days like these remind of the passerby,

With whom you might find thinks as you, likewise.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was inspired by a rainy morning's view over a city from a third story deck, and a poem written by a user on this website. Won't tell you which one though! Gotta keep that mystery.

Very good words Nicholas, there are probably many people stepping though the rain with similar thoughts.
