Tune: Gonfalon Royal

('The royal banners forward go')

***********

Cedars of Lebanon, your wings

Spread out, to your Creator sing

And fields and valleys, moors and mounts

Rivers and you refreshing founts

Atop a hill, the view we see

It all of God's creation be

He faithful through each season sure

And lives and reigns for evermore

Green pastures, birds at riverside

Your beauty shown, it not denied

Flow on rivers, your circling rounds

In God your origins are found

Here peace amidst a church graveyard

You blessed ones, if life easy, hard

Was for you while you lived below

God's presence you now for e'er know

Harvest-Lord, Lord of all seasons

Far above man's thoughts and reasons

You came to us in Christ your Son

Brought salvation for every one

Here going on our journey's way

Your presence assures us each day

O leave us not, through sun, wind, rain

Eternal life through you we gain

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. metre. I wrote this, sat outside this church on top of a hill. Two cedars of Lebanon are to the right of the church in the picture. This is the view you get on top of the hill. Worth a 90 minute or so walk - each way! There is public transport too. A gonfalon is a sort of flag/banner, hence tune name and hymn title.

a wonderfully uplifting verse even when removed from its faith-based context

Thanks LB. I suppose it can be taken literally and metaphorically., or in physical and spiritual senses.
