Attrition

Neville

Attrition

He wore them

until he wore them out completely …

Only then did he break them

but he did not break them cleanly …

That, is the true nature of war

regardless of what they may try and teach you …

Oh what a meaningful title to your reminder of what not to do - - --
    - -to use this method of wearing down by constant attack must take minds of solid unfeeling rock-hard determination to conquer and to control - -- a heart-wrenching read my dear Nev.

The so called Great War 1914 - 1918 or World War 1 .. the war to end all wars .. was pretty much a war of attrition ... and one of two periods in time that I seem to have such an affinity with ...

Many thanks for looking beyond the title here Fay .... always appreciated ..

Ever since I saw the Series, the images are imprinted on my mind. Your few words have jarred this reality back to life.
        Thanks

the absurd chain of haphazardly circumstantial events that manipulated a simmering but stable Europe into the bloodshed of horror that was WW1 is quite simply: mind boggling, to read it now is like reading some far-fetched plot of a fictional story...
only it's not fictional and the horrors and consequences are sill prevalent a century later...
even more horrifyingly: is the haunting realisation that humanity has learnt little from having experienced a century of two horrific world wars...
Attrition, indeed: I smile at people's notion that Hell is an ideology reserved for the afterlife...
you've penned a wonderfully worded empathetic write, on a subject that triggers me easily

and for what its worth my literary friend .. I find myself struggling to find words fine enough to thank you with the intensity & depth your comments above instil within me .. no kiddin .... thank you for such a reasoned and well rounded gift ...

Ya can't beat a bit of attriting, if that's even a word?!
