What will become of you
As you begin that long journey
Towards the ever receding gate
Of promised dreams?
Alone, on an unmarked road
Flanked by life’s random visitors,
Speaking in strange languages,
Pulling you in, pushing you out.
Will quiet nights follow happy days
In that endearing living room of yours
Where your goodness shines
Through every little thing?
And will the smiling faces
On your walls and shelves
Urge you onwards
Or hold you back?
Shall you walk on lightly
Without hunger or thirst,
Thanking the Universe for love and kindness
Without fear of darkness?
Or will your steps be heavy
With regret and loneliness as friends,
Always wondering, always longing
Perhaps a song or sudden light
Will show a way to that place
Where love and thoughts
Are tender friends.
Or maybe a magical prayer
Will calm our troubled hearts
So anxious to love,
So afraid of strange places.

Between your words is the dilemma of caring when someone chooses a path into a place we would not go. But there should be no holding back of another soul, each must tread their path as well as they see fit and if there be such a thing as destiny, then that destiny is theirs alone.
I hope it turns out well for your daughter.
Thank you, I agree although it's easier said than done (as it almost always is..)
I think sometimes we just have to step back and watch without voicing too much disapproval because that could alienate us and really the most important thing is that contact is never lost and you become a very readily available safety net if it all goes wrong for her. Yes easier said than done, and down right unfair when youve put years of love and care into her.... but who ever said life is fair.
Wisdom and love will win the day.

wonderfully insightful and subtle in tone, underlining that tight rope parent's have to traverse: yearning to pass-on their hard-earned wisdom - fruits from their own mistakes, while being careful to not discourage or belittle the opportunities presented to their most cherished of treasures.
wonderful write.
All we can do is pour good into our children and hope that end they find their way to pour that good back out into the world.
